Last week in Moscow the rise in prices was recorded for leeks and eggplant from Holland and Belgium. The reason for this phenomenon was a temporary decline in commodity supply in Moscow.

Due to lower temperatures the supply of domestic aubergines and courgettes is decreasing what results in price increase.

In the current season the crops of aubergines are quite large and since mid-August the price of these vegetables had been decreasing. The minimum average price at the end of August amounted to 2.75 PLN (0.68 euro)/kg.

In mazowieckie province the purchase prices of aubergines intended for export are stable for two weeks. Their current price is about 3 PLN (0.73 euro)/kg (minimum diameter 40 mm, packed into 10 kg cartons).

In mazowieckie province in companies buying aubergines for the trade on the domestic market price of these vegetables is about 1.27 – 1.41 euro/kg (1 class, diameter above 40 mm, packed into boxes of 10 kg).

At the wholesale market in Białystok price of imported aubergines increased to 2.06 – 2.21 EUR/kg while last week prices were 1.92 – 2.06 EUR/kg.

In central Poland the price of aubergines increased due to reduced supply. On Friday, September 12th in the area of Radom price of aubergines reached the level of 1.10 EUR/kg (price of aubergines in cardboard boxes of 5 kg).

Prices of aubergines are increasing. In surroundings of Przytyk (the biggest production area of aubergines) price of aubergines without packaging is 0.69 EUR/kg and price of aubergines packed into boxes of 5 kg is 0.79 EUR/kg.

This year purchase prices of aubergines in the area of Radom are exceptionally low. Last years many producers are moved from the production of sweet peppers to the production of aubergines because of better production profitability.
