Low prices and weak demand – it is briefly description of the situation on carrot market this season. The supply of carrots is high, so prices are unlikely to go up.

Last year situation on the carrot market did not repeat. At the end of previous season the prices of carrot were increasing very quickly. In the current season prices of this vegetable remain stable.

On the market there are a lot of carrot of poor quality but supply of good quality carrot is insufficient. Prices of such carrot still grow.

On the Polish market there are more and more carrot imported from the Netherlands due to growing prices of domestic carrot.

The wholesale price of the best quality carrots, mechanically cleaned, are at the level of 0.80 – 1.00 PLN (0.25 euro)/kg. The price of carrot of slightly worse quality is from 0.50 PLN (0.12 euro)/kg.

Increase in demand for washed carrot (especially washed mechanically) could be observed on the wholesale markets already before Christmas. At the moment one can still observe upward trend in demand for such carrot.

In contrast to the parsley, prices of which currently are increasing, the price of carrots shows a downward trend.

The supply of carrots is high and as a result its price is low. The wholesale price of good quality washed carrot is from 0.45 PLN (0.11 euro)/kg.

On the wholesale market the supply of carrot is sufficient. Prices of carrots are rather stable and depend only on the quality.

The demand for carrots is stable and according to producers, quite satisfactory. Of course, it concerns the carrots of good quality, because only such carrot is in demand.

The large supply and good weather caused that the price of carrots in the last month had a downward trend. On Thursday, September 17, prices of washed carrot were 0.45 - 0.90 PLN (0.11-0.22 euro)/kg depending on the quality.

Prices of carrot have been decreasing for a long time due to bigger and bigger supply of carrot on the market.

Some processing plants have already started the purchase of carrots. In the central part of Poland the purchase price of carrots for purée is about 0.30 PLN (0.07 euro)/kg.

On the market one can observe big demand for young carrot. Prices of washed carrot of good quality started from 0.75 PLN (0.17 euro)/kg last week. This week they are increasing.

On the wholesale market there are already very small quantities of carrot of last year’s crop. Early carrot both domestic and imported dominates on the market.

At the end of the season the price of last year carrot are increasing. This week in southern Poland (małopolskie province) the purchase price of carrot was 2.80 PLN (0.62 euro)/kg i.e. by 0.30 euro (0.07 euro)/kg more than last week.

The washed Polish carrot is still in big interest of foreign recipients. Of course it concerns only the carrot of very good quality. High demand for carrot results in relatively high prices at level about 2 PLN (0.46 euro)/kg.

With the average harvests of carrot at the level about 900 thousand tons, Poland is the largest producer of this vegetable in the EU, followed by Great Britain, France, Germany and the Netherlands.

As we have already informed the supply of Polish carrot i slow and its price is still growing. It also resulted in increasing prices of carrot imported from the Netherlands.

In łódzkie province the supply of carrot is so low that a lot of companies purchasing this vegetable don’t even increase the prices because there is no carrot to purchase.

At the beginning of the his week price of carrots increased. On Monday, 30 March the price of carrot of very good quality was 2 PLN (0.42 euro)/kg.

At the end of last week in the centre of Poland the price of carrot increased to 2 PLN (0.44 euro)/kg.

The purchase prices of the carrot for processing (for cubes) are much higher than in 2008. At the moment the average purchase price in processing plants is 0.48 PLN (0.11 euro)/kg.

On Tuesday, 17 March the prices of carrot imported from the Netherlands were at the level 1.40 – 1.60 PLN (0.31-0.36 euro)/kg for washed carrot of 1st class and 1.25 – 1.30 PLN (0.28-0.29 euro)/kg for carrot of 2nd class.
