In a test week at the market there was initially cheaper basic positions, but at the end of the week prices have started to grow due to the expectation of increased demand for next weekend due to Easter.

Prices of imported fruit are rather stable. Coming Christmas does not influence their prices, however the demand is quite big and importers cannot problems with selling goods.

On the market one can observe growing sales of fruit and vegetables before coming Christmas.
Fruit growers expect that at the begging of 2010 export of apples to Russia, will be considerably higher what gives hope for higher prices.

In mid-December prices of citrus fruit are still stable.

According to forecasts of IERiGŻ-PIB import of oranges in season 2008/2009 will be the biggest in the period of five last years and it will amount to 123 thousand t at value 61 million euro.

In the third week of December prices of apples for export remained stable. The price (without packaging) of red varieties, size 7 +, was from 0.40 PLN (0.097 euro)/kg.

According to the newest forecasts of IERiGŻ-PIB much higher import of almost all southern fruit is expected in season 2008/2009 (mainly citrus fruit, kiwi fruit, watermelon and grapes).

Prices of these fruits will be lower than in the previous season. Import of bananas, peaches and nectarines will also grow but their prices will be similar to those ones of the previous season.

In mazowieckie province importers of citrus fruit are announcing that current turnovers aren't impressive, and wholesale recipients reduced their orders.

According to examinations of households conducted by the GUS consumption of fresh and processed fruit takes the fifth place (after the meat, products from cereals, eggs and dairy products and vegetables).
