Spain: First melons on the market

April is the beginning of melons season. First fruits are already on the market. The earliest variety is Galia which is one of most popular in Europe. Melons are grown in Almeria.

Good weather conditions and rising demand cause that traders are sure they will have no problems will sale.

On Wednesday April 2nd firts Galia melons were available at auctions in Femago and La Union. Prices were at the level of 0.92 - 0.96 EUR / kg.

They will remain stable for few weeks until supply will be high enough to cause price drop.
