Cultivated mushrooms: decrease in prices and export volume

In the third quarter of 2008 the purchase prices of cultivated mushrooms were lower than in the same period of the last year.

Only prices in July was similar to the prices level of last year but prices in August and in September decreased by 13 percent and 4 percent respectively. Such situation is a result of the shorter demand for cultivated mushrooms intended for export. The new trade figures released by the Analytical Centre of Customs Administration (CAAC) shows that in July this year the export of fresh cultivated mushrooms was lower than in July 2007. The export volume lowered by about 1.5 thousand tons to 8.6 thousand t. The most decrease was noted for export to the Netherlands (about 1.7 thousand t to 0.8 thousand t) and to Germany (about 2 thousand t to 1.7 thousand t). Additionally there was shorter demand for cultivated mushrooms on the domestic market because of supply of wild mushrooms in summer and autumn.
