Culitvation of vegetables flooded

On Friday, May 21, the flood wave front on the Vistula River passed Warsaw. The biggest flood in decades has caused enormous losses in many agricultural areas. Water affected also the cultivation of vegetables and the most of plants were destroyed.

Cultivation of sweet peppers, cucumbers and other vegetables were under water and they cannot be saved. On the areas where the flood wave did not reach the losses were caused by torrential rains. Vegetables are often planted on the lower-lying areas and water could easily accumulate there. It is unknown when farmers can plant new plants of vegetables on the flooded fields. No one yet knows what are the losses, but it is certain that this season on fruit and vegetables market will be very different than usual.
