Forecast of potatoes crops

The forecast of crops of potatoes prepared by IAFE-NRI (ZEO-IERiGŻ-PIB) shows these crops will be lower than previous ones by 10% at least. For few years production of potatoes has been reducing systematically.

It is caused by low purchase price of potatoes and constantly growing production costs. Additionally profitability of cereals production was high last year what contributed to further decrease in potatoes production. This year potatoes crops are estimated at 10,5 million tons. Area of production will probably decrease to 530 thousand ha, by 7 % less than in 2007.
