Low prices of dessert apples

In the first days of October prices of desert apples cause the sleepless nights of fruit growers. On Thursday, October 2nd the price of Cortland and Lobo varieties of 7+ size was 0.20 - 0.22 EUR/kg and price of Shampion was 0.25 EUR/kg.

Prices of Cortland are even lower locally. Prices of Ligol, Jonagold and Rubin varieties are still above 0.29 EUR/kg. All prices include cost of packaging. Low prices are caused by greater crop in this season and a small export. However one should pay attention to one aspect of such situation, particularly connected with the export. On the Polish market it is easier to buy a few or dozen or so ton of apples than a few hundred ton of apples and potential foreign buyers are interested in only such amounts. More fruit producer's groups can solve this problem because they are able to sell such large-wholesale amounts of apples and also have tools for the promotion of their product on the foreign markets.
