Low prices of seed-potatoes

Potatoes are very cheap this year. In the winter seed-potatoes cost about 1000 PLN/ ton. Many suppliers believed that the prices will be as high as year before. Unfortunately it was impossible, mainly due to drop in prices to the level of 0.10 – 0.20 PLN/ kg. It means that farmers should sell at least 5 tons of potatoes in order to buy one ton of seed-potatoes.

January comes to the end but the situation on the potato market doesn’t improve. It is much more difficult for producers to sell potato than month ago.

Export of Polish potatoes

According to the latest data from Polish Central Statistical Office,from January to October 2011 Poland exported 68 thousand tons of potatoes, mainly to Byelorussia.
