More and more apples for processing

On Tuesday, July 30th purchase prices of apples fluctuated around 0.05 EUR/kg. Despite of low prices large amounts of apples are already delivered to the purchasing centres and processing plants.

There are queues of fruit growers outside processing plants. This year there will be a lot of apples for processing. We already wrote about causes of such situation – heavy crops of apples and low quality of apples as a result of scab. However it is difficult to forecast how many fruit growers will decide not to pick apples for processing.

Purchase prices of apples for processing will probably be decreasing further. So far minimum purchase prices of apples for processing were in seasons 2000/2001 (0.06 EUR/kg) and 2001/2002 (0.05 EUR/kg).
