More pears this year

After last year low crops of pears (31 thousand tons) this year record crops are expected. According to forecast prepared by IERiGŻ-PIB total crops of pears may reach 65 thousand tons.

First early varieties of domestic pears appeared on the market in Poznań. Price is 1.08 – 1.24 EUR/kg for pears packed in 10 kg boxes. In a few days decrease of purchase price below 0.93 EUR/kg is expected. According to price forecast prepared by IERiGŻ-PIB prices of dessert pears will decrease to about 0.62 EUR/kg and during the peak of harvests prices will probably drop below 0.62 EUR/kg.
