Poland: big demand for onion

We already informed about rising prices of onion due to its lower supply and increasing demand for this vegetable. On Friday, January 15th prices of domestic onion prices were 0.60 – 0.80 PLN (0.15-0.20 euro)/kg, and locally reached even over 0.90 PLN (0.22 euro)/kg.

Such prices caused that import of onion can be bigger every day. Currently, it can be onion from Germany, where price on Friday was about 0.22 euro/kg (excluding transport costs) or from the Netherlands, where price is 0.20 - 0.25 euro/kg (without transport costs).

Dutch offer also onions from Egypt at price of 0.16 euro/kg. The cost of transport is about 0.05 euro/kg i.e. the maximum price of imported onion is 0.30 euro/kg.
