Poland: difficult trade due to heavy frost
Due to heavy frost the trade in vegetables is very difficult. Low temperatures are very unfavorable for example, brassicas. Even short exposure to temperatures of -10 degrees causes damages. Many producers do not want to open cold stores and risk lower quality products. Transport of vegetables is also difficult.
All this factors contribute to rising costs of handling and transport and in consequences to increase in prices of many vegetables.
On Wednesday, January 27th prices of white cabbage reached 0.80 PLN (0.19 euro)/kg, red cabbage – 1.10 PLN (0.27 euro)/kg. The supply of Savoy cabbage is low and its prices reached 3.00 PLN (0.73 euro)/pcs.
