Poland: poor quality of domestic leeks

The current season is not good for leeks. Many leeks remained on the field. Some of them have poor quality due to thrips and they are suitable only for soup vegetables or for preparing on trays. Prices of such leeks are 2.50 - 2.75 PLN (0.62-0.68 euro)/kg.

Price of good quality leeks is from 4 PLN (0.99 euro)/kg.

On the market leeks imported from France and Belgium are already available. On Friday, January 15th the price of imported leeks was about 5 PLN (1.24 euro)/kg.

On the market there are also cheaper Turkish leeks. Their price is 3.50 PLN (0.87 euro)/kg, but they are much thinner than the domestic leeks and leeks imported from western countries.
