Poland: production of vegetables in 2009

According to preliminary data from Polish Central Statistic Office (GUS) in 2009 the harvest of field vegetables was bigger by about 8.6 % than in 2008.

As regards vegetables grown under protection their crops was higher by about 2.4 %, however the production of cucumbers reduced by about 2.3 % to 224 thousand t and production of tomatoes remained almost stable (444 thousand t).

As regards field vegetables the big increase concerned onion (+14.5 %, 708 thousand t), carrot (+ 11.8 %, 913 thousand t) and other vegetables together i.e. parsleys, leeks, radish, lettuces (+13 %, 815 thousand t).
