Poland: situation on apples market

Between July 2008 and February 2009 Poland exported about 410 thousand tons of apples. 150 thousand tons were sent to Ukraine and 107 thousand tons to Russia.

The high export volume is particularly important due to very large last year's crops. It allows to prevent the oversupply of apples on the domestic market. On April 15, the stock of apples was estimated at 150 thousand tons of apples of good quality and about 20 thousand tons of apples of poorer quality. This season’s export of apples is at high level but producers are worrying about low prices because the production costs are still increasing. The prices have increased recently but it is still too little to cover the rising costs.
