Polish market overview - 10 week 2011

In 10 week 2011 wholesale prices of citrus fruit was generally stable. It was noted only slight decrease in prices of mandarins imported from Spain and grapefruit imported from Israel. Price of Spanish mandarins fell by about 4 % week-on-week to 32-42 PLN (8.00-10.50 euro)/10 kg depending on size.

Demand for apples from Russian recipients was lower. It was partly caused by holiday - Women’s Day which is very celebrated in Russia.

Lower export resulted in stabilization of apples prices. The price of Idared, which is in most demand, was 1.90-2.00 PLN (0.47-0.50 euro)/kg for apples from ordinary cold stores and 2.10-2.30 PLN (0.52-0.57 euro)/kg for apples from CA.

The average wholesale price of carrot decreased slightly to 1.10 PLN (0.27 euro)/kg. The producer price of washed carrot remained stable – 0.80-0.90 PLN (0.20-0.22 euro)/kg.

Price of white cabbage was sill increasing and wholesale price reached 2.00 PLN (0.50 euro)/kg.

Chinese cabbage also became expensive. Its wholesale price was 3.25 PLN (0.81 euro)/kg i.e. by 0.35 PLN (0.09 euro)/kg more than in week 9.

Price of onion, by contrast, remained stable due to low demand. However at the end of the week one could observe some movement on the market. The average wholesale price of onion was 1.15 PLN (0.29 euro)/kg.
Prices of potatoes were still growing due to low supply of product of acceptable quality. The average wholesale price of potatoes was 1.17 PLN (0.29 euro)/kg. Price of potatoes intended fro export (size min. 5+ and good quality) reached 1.33 PLN (0.33 euro)/kg.
