Polish market overview - 7 week 2011

In 7 week prices of white cabbage were still in upward trend due to low supply and high demand. The wholesale price of cabbage was from 1.20-1.70 PLN (0.30-0.42 euro)/kg depending on the region of the country.

Prices of Chinese cabbage were stable but increase is expected due to growing demand in Russia. Producers’ price of Chinese cabbage was 1.90-2.10 PLN (0.47-0.52 euro)/kg and in the end of the week even 2.00-2.20 PLN (0.50-0.55 euro)/kg.

Prices of onion also remained stable. The demand was low, especially for onion intended for export. The price was from 1.00 PLN (0.25 euro)/kg to 1.20-1.40 PLN (0.30-0.35 euro)/kg depending on the region. Prices of imported onion were also stable. Onion from Holland, size 4-6 cost about 1.40 PLN (0.35 euro)/kg.

Prices of citrus fruit did not change week-on-week. The price of oranges was 3.80 PLN (0.95 eruo)/kg and price of mandarins was 3.20-4.00 PLN (0.80-1.00 euro)/kg.

In 7 week producers’ prices of apples for export again increased, e.g. price of Idared grew by 0.10-0.20 PLN (0.025-0.05 euro)/kg and apples from CA cost from 1.90 to 2.30 PLN (0.47-0.57 euro)/kg. Prices of red apples from CA also increased to 1.80-2.00 PLN (0.45-0.50 euro)/kg for size 70 +. The demand for apples from ordinary cold stores was low and their prices were 1.50-1.60 PLN (0.37-0.40 euro)/kg.
