Polish market overview - 8 week 2011

In 8 week 2011 the demand for potatoes was growing what resulted in increase in their prices. The average wholesale price was 1.10 PLN (0.27 euro)/kg. traders were looking for mainly potatoes of big size because Russian importers prefer such product.
 
Price of white cabbage were also increasing due to still high demand. Traders who wanted to collect required quantity of cabbage were ready to pay higher prices. On the other hand producers did not want sell product waiting for even higher prices. At then beginning oh the 8 week selling price of cabbage was 1.40-1.50 PLN (0.35-0.37 euro)/kg and at the end of the week it was 1.80 PLN (0.45 euro)/kg.

As regards onion, by contrast, the demand was rather low. The demand from Russian importers for Polish onion was also low. The average selling price of onion was 1.16 PLN (0.29 euro)/kg. Price of imported onion remained stable – 1.40 PLN (0.35 euro)/kg.

In 8 week price of Idared apples intended for export again increased. Price reached 2.00 PLN (0.50 euro)/kg and some companies were buying Idared from CA at price 2.30 PLN (0.57 euro)/kg. However despite such high price, some producers were still waiting for further increase.

Prices of citrus fruit were generally stable. Only price of oranges increased by about 5 %. Price of mandarins from Morocco was 3.80-4.00 PLN (0.95-1.00 euro)/kg and those from Spain – 3.20-4.50 PLN (0.80-1.12 euro)/kg depending on size.
