Weakness of the zloty influence the import

On the wholesale markets prices of imported fruit and vegetables started growing as a result of weakening zloty against the dollar and the euro.

On the wholesale market in Poznań prices of bananas from Ecuador increased to 4.20 PLN (0.92 euro)/kg last week. One week earlier before the zloty considerably dropped again the price of bananas was 3.80-3.90 PLN (0.83-0.85 euro)/kg. On the wholesale market in Elbląg prices of bananas increased by about 0.80 PLN (0.17 euro) to 4.30 PLN (0.94 euro)/kg compared with the beginning of January. Traders are afraid that the consumption of bananas in Poland can be adversely affected by the rise in wholesale prices.
