Weekly summary – fresh-market.pl price analyse (1-7.09.08)
In the first week of September on the market of fruit and vegetables there weren’t the significant fluctuations in prices. A turning point in the dispute over purchase prices of apples for processing didn't come, although the agreement was close.
The Polish Association of Juices Producers agreed to recommend the price 0.087 EUR/kg to processing plants; however fruit growers expect signing the formal agreement in this matter. At the moment in purchasing centers prices are still at the level of about 0.044 EUR/kg.
Prices of different fruits rather didn't change. Price of dessert apples of summer varieties e.g. Paulared stayed at the level of 0.20 - 0.23 EUR/kg. Price of chokeberries was at the same price level what in the end of August i.e. 0.20 - 0.23 EUR/kg. Price of raspberries was 1.02 – 1.31 EUR/kg depending on the region. Because of very large supply low prices of plums have been staying. Depending on the variety and the quality prices of plums fluctuate from 0.15 to 0.35 EUR/kg.
Last week situation with the majority of prices of vegetables was similar. The growing supply causes the slow decline in prices. One can see this downward trend better in a month-long than week period, e.g. average price of carrots was 0.16 EUR/kg last week, but downward trend started on 18 August at price 0.22 EUR/kg. The similar situation concerns onions and different vegetables. In the end of last week price of onions was 0.14 EUR/kg and price in the middle of August was 0.23 EUR/kg.
In comparison with prices of last week average prices of cauliflowers and Chinese cabbages dropped. Let us remind that prices of these vegetables in some regions of Poland increased in the end of August. In the end of last week average price of cauliflower was 0.99 EUR/piece and price of Chinese cabbages was 0.32 EUR/piece.
Higher prices of broccoli have been stayed. In the end of last week average price of more and more popular broccoli was 0.52 EUR/piece. Consecutive week prices of sweet peppers were increasing because of less supply. In the end of last week average price of red and yellow sweet peppers was 0.99 EUR/kg, and price of green sweet peppers was 0.67 EUR/kg. This upward trend will probably stay.
At the beginning of last week prices of tomatoes also increased. Price of BB tomatoes in 6 kg cardboard boxes reached 4.66 EUR. However in the end of last week prices dropped and price of BB tomatoes was 4.08 EUR/box and 3.79 EUR/box for tomatoes of B size.
