Weekly summary – fresh-market.pl price analyse

Crops of strawberries is slowly completed in many regions of the country. Because of the drought there is less strawberries of good quality on the market. Therefore price of dessert strawberries was stable at level of 2,08 – 2,38 EUR/2 kg basket.

Also because of the drought more and more strawberries of lower quality are intended for processing. In the end of last week prices of strawberries for processing were about 0,39 EUR/kg of strawberries with stalk and 0,67 EUR/kg of strawberries without stalk and calyx.

Last week crops of cherries ‘Burlat’ variety was finished. Nowadays ‘Van’ variety dominates on the market. The price of this variety ranged last week from 1.79 to 2.68 EUR/kg depending on the region of Poland and quality but also on supply of cherries on given day. In the end of the week supply of cherries was too low to meet the demand and as the consequence Polish buyers and exporters were competing for cherries.

Last week one have seen declining trend of the prices of cauliflowers started on June 16th. In spite of drought the quantity of cauliflowers on the market was increasing and as a consequence one has seen the drop of prices. On Friday, June 27th price in some places went down to 0,30 EUR/piece (average price was 0,45 EUR/piece).

Prices of tomatoes are at relatively high level but they are not stable. The factors connected with the vegetative cycle of tomatoes and economic factors can influence short-term fluctuations of market prices of tomatoes. At the beginning of last week prices went down slightly but price decrease was stopped quickly. On Friday, June 27th average price of tomatoes size B was 0.86 EUR/kg and tomatoes size BB 0.91 EUR/kg. Price at high level is kept by higher demand, bigger export and lower supply.

Apart from the white and green sweet peppers also ‘Igołomska’ sweet peppers are already available on the market at price of 1.34 – 1.49 EUR/kg. On Friday, June 27th price of green peppers was about 0.90 EUR/kg and white peppers about 1.34 EUR/kg.

Last week price of early beetroots was lower by several dozen of cents in comparison with the end of third week of June. On Friday, June 27th price of early beetroots was about 0.37 EUR/kg. Price decrease is connected with growing supply of these vegetables. However taking into consideration the fact that this year quantity of sown beetroots is small, it is possible to expect that price of beetroots should not already decrease.

On Friday, June 27th price of early carrots was at the level of 0,56 EUR/kg. In spite of growing supply of domestic early carrots, there is still too little product to meet domestic and export demand. Early crop of carrots is almost finished and due to the drought the vegetation of vegetables (including carrots) of later crops is delayed. It depends on weather when bigger quantities of early carrots are available on the market.

The relatively high price of French beans has been staying for a few weeks. On Friday, June 27th average price was at level of 2.08 EUR/kg. There is lack of French beans on the market as a result not favourable weather conditions. Flowers of beans was reduced by cold nights and diseases what resulted in small crops of French beans growing in polytunnels.

There have been huge amount of early cabbages on the market for last couple of days. Supply is so big that price is declining day by day. On Friday, June 27th price of early cabbages was about 0.13 EUR/kg. In half of June price of early cabbages was 0.33 EUR/kg.
