Weekly summary – fresh-market.pl price analyse (15-21.09.2008)

The prices of apples stayed of course the most important issue in the third week of September. The guaranteed purchase price 0.084 EUR/kg is paid only for the raw material of perfect quality.

In fact the processing plants which earlier agreed on such price paid only 0.075 EUR/kg maximally. Additionally only minimal amounts of apples were being bought. Prices in purchasing centres fluctuated from 0.048 to 0.054 EUR/kg and in processing plants price was 0.06 EUR/kg maximally. Prices of industrial apples at the level of 0.09 EUR/kg will be possible when prices of apple juice concentrate on world markets exceed level of 1000 euro/ton (now price is 750 - 950 euro/ton).
Prices of dessert apples stayed at the level of prices of the second week of September i.e. about 0.22 - 0.26 EUR/kg (price for apples with packaging). Prices of apples, in the long-term period, will be influenced by the level of the export. Prices of pears also stayed at the level of prices of the second week of September i.e. 0.45 – 0.60 EUR/kg (price for pears with packaging).

The purchase of plums for processing is ending. Prices fluctuated from 0.15 to 0.30 EUR/kg. Price 0.30 EUR/kg concerns cooled plums delivered to the plants. In the end of last week one can noticed a distinct increase in demand for dessert plums what can result in a rise in their prices. Price of cooled plums, packed into cardboard boxes was up to 0.42 EUR/kg.

Last week purchase of chokeberries practically finished. This year prices of chokeberries was much lower than last year: 0.21 - 0.23 EUR/kg, while last year price was 0.81 - 0.90 EUR/kg.

On the market of vegetables one could observe an influence of the weather worsening. Vegetables of which growth is connected with the schedule of twenty-four hour temperatures became more expensive. First of all it concerns cauliflowers. In the end of last week price of cauliflowers was 0.45 – 0.51 EUR/piece. In the central Poland prices of sweet peppers, courgettes and aubergines stayed high. It isn’t possible to buy aubergines in the wholesale volumes.

The price of Chinese cabbages also stayed at the relatively high level. Price of Chinese cabbages packed into cardboard boxes was still about 0.33 EUR/kg. As we predicted last week prices of tomatoes were still increasing. The average price of tomatoes of B size packed in boxes of 6 kg was 0.77 EUR/kg and price of tomatoes of BB size was 0.81 EUR/kg.

The prices of onions, root vegetables and potatoes remained stable.
