Weekly summary – fresh-market.pl price analyse (15-21.12.2008)
In the third week of December prices of apples for export remained stable. The price (without packaging) of red varieties, size 7 +, was from 0.40 PLN (0.097 euro)/kg.
There are a lot of apples on the market, but their quality is not very good. The prices of industrial apples dropped. On Thursday, 18th in mazowieckie province the price of apples was 0.10 – 0.12 PLN (0.24-0.29 euro)/kg while on Wednesday the price still was 0.17 PLN (0.041 euro)/kg. In other areas of Poland the price also fluctuates around 0.10 PLN (0.24 euro)/kg.
Before Christmas the demand for citrus fruit is increasing but at the moment the supply of citruses is very large and their prices remain generally stable.
Last week the prices of some domestic vegetables changed. First of all the price of washed carrot of good quality increased and in surroundings of Warsaw the wholesale price of carrot reached 1.10 PLN (0.268 euro)/kg. In surroundings of Warsaw the price of Chinese cabbage of medium size intended for export is also increasing. The price of such cabbage reached 1.20 PLN (0.29 euro)/kg. In south and south-east of Poland the prices of Chinese cabbage still remain very cheap and its supply is still large.
The situation with onion is different. The price of onion is very low in the whole Poland - 0.25 – 0.35PLN (0.06-0.085 euro)/kg. So far the prices in the central part of Poland were a little bit higher but now they are also decreasing. Last week the lowest prices of onion in the area of Warsaw were 0.30 – 0.35 PLN (0.073 -0.085 euro)/kg.
Prices of other domestic vegetables generally remained stable. There is still big demand for potatoes intended for export (with phytosanitary certificates) and their price is by about 0.10 PLN (0.024 euro)/kg higher than the price of potatoes intended for domestic market.
In the third week of December prices of imported vegetables (cucumbers, tomatoes and peppers) increased. Taking into account coming holidays and more and more weak Polish currency one can expect that upward trend in prices of these vegetables will be continued.
