Weekly summary – fresh-market.pl price analyse (17-23.11.2008)

The third week of November together with lower temperature brought some changes in prices of fruit and vegetables. However these changes did not concern the apples.

In mazowieckie province the purchase price of industrial apples stayed at the level 0.026 euro/kg. Only the prices in processing plants in the south Poland was higher – to 0.047 euro/kg.

The price of apples intended for export stayed at the level 0.184 euro/kg for size 70+ and 0.21 for size 80+ (the prices include the packaging). Only the prices of Golden Delicious were higher: 0.26 – 0.34 euro/kg.

As regards vegetables the worse weather first of all influenced the supply and the prices of cauliflowers and broccoli. The prices of cauliflowers and broccoli were increasing last week. The average price of cauliflowers increased by 20 % as compared to the previous week. Increase in price of broccoli was lower about - 3 %. Lower price increase in the case of broccoli was caused by the fact that the differences in prices in different regions of Poland decreased. The second half of October is time for the end of harvest of domestic cauliflowers and broccoli.

The wholesale offer of domestic tomatoes is really low and the prices increased by 17 % for A size tomatoes, by 27 % for B size tomatoes and 28% for BB size tomatoes.

Last week the prices of greenhouse cucumbers also increased. At the end of last week the average price of short cucumbers was 1.84 euro/kg (increase by 5 % as compared to previous week) and the average price of long cucumbers was 1.38 euro/kg (increase by 17%).

The prices of Iceberg lettuce kept their upward trend and they increased by even 60 % to 1,14 euro/piece.

The price of onion also decreased and at the end of last week its average price was lower by 11 % and it was 0.10 euro/kg.

In some regions of Poland the price of Chinese cabbage decreased even to 0.08 euro/kg (the price without packaging).

The average prices of red and Savoy cabbages slightly decreased but at the moment it is difficult to say about downward trend.

Last week the prices of root vegetables stayed as usual the most stable.
