Weekly summary - fresh-market.pl price analyse (25-31.08.2008)
The consecutive week of August was marked by protests of fruit growers at low purchase prices of apples. The agreement wasn't achieved and blockades of processing plants are being continued.
Low prices of dessert apples have been staying. Last week price was 0.21 - 0.24 EUR/kg for 1st class apples.
Last week purchase prices of chokeberries didn't change, and they are still at level of about 0.21 EUR/kg.
Prices of plums also remained stable at the price of the third week of August. Price of plums of the best quality and size 4+, intended for export was about 0.30 EUR/kg.
There are many vegetables on the market as usual at this time of year. Prices of the majority of vegetables are rather stable. If some fluctuations occurs they are short-lived and little. However price of cauliflowers diversified again depending on the area of cultivation. While in the end of week on the wholesale market in Bronisze price reached 0.60 EUR/piece (price contains cost of cardboard box of 6 pieces), in different regions of central Poland, price of cauliflowers in the same packaging was 0.39 – 0.48 EUR/piece. In małopolskie province price of cauliflowers without the packaging was from 0.18 EUR/kg.
The consecutive week prices of filed-grown cucumbers stayed at high level of 0.72 – 0.75 EUR/kg for cucumbers size 6- 9 cm.
Last week of August prices of Chinese cabbages also stayed at high level. In the end of week price of good quality Chinese cabbages with the packaging was 0.36 – 0.45 EUR/kg. There is a lack of Chinese cabbages of good quality on the market.
Price of domestic sweet peppers also increased. In the end of last week of August price was 0.90 EUR/kg for red sweet peppers and 0.63 EUR/kg for white and green sweet peppers (prices contain cost of cardboard boxes). Sweet peppers for processing also became more expensive and their price was 0.75 EUR/kg for the cut peppers. There is low supply of sweet peppers on the market in spite of big demand. It is a result of unfavourable weather, cool nights are delaying growth.
Last week prices of tomatoes also increased. At the begging of the week price of tomatoes stayed stable but on Thursday, August 28th net price of 6 kg box of tomatoes was already from 2.69 to 3.28 EUR. On the domestic market it was a sudden lack of tomatoes and it resulted in price increase. Such situation was caused by growing export as well as by unfavourable weather which, as in the case of sweet peppers, delays ripening of tomatoes.
