Weekly summary – fresh-market.pl price analysis (04.10 – 08.10.2010)– vegetables

Sunny weather at the beginning of October was contributed to better harvest of vegetables. Producers of cauliflowers and broccoli had especially a lot of work because they wanted to collect as much as possible before forecasted frost. The supply of these vegetables started decreasing and prices increased at the end o the week. Prices were from 1.50-1.60 PLN (0.38-0.40 euro)/pcs. to 1.80 PLN (0.45 euro)/pcs. near Warsaw and in the south of Poland. Selling prices of broccoli in trading companies was 1.60-1.80 PLN (0.40-0.45 euro)/pcs. and in the wholesale markets the price reached even 2.40 PLN (0.61 euro)/pcs.

Prices of cabbages, onion and root vegetables remained rather stable. Only in małopolskie province one could note increase in price of cabbage to 1.00 PLN (0.25 euro)/kg or parsley to 2.50 PLN (0.63 euro)/kg. But the most often price was 0.70 PLN (0.18 euro)/kg for cabbage and 1.60-1.80 PLN (0.40-0.45 euro)/kg for parsley.
Price of Chinese cabbage was 1.40-1.50 PLN (0.35-0.38 euro)/kg.
Prices of onion remained at the level 1.00-1.20 PLN (0.25-0.30 euro)/kg. Supply of onion is slow and in spring its price may reach very high level.

Price of potatoes are also high. The minimum price is 0.60 PLN (0.15 euro)/kg in łódzkie and wielkopolskie province. In małopolskie province or near Sandomierz price of potatoes reaches 1.00 PLN (0.25 euro)/kg.

The harvest of red sweet pepper is at the end and its price was 3.60-4.00 PLN (0.91-1.00 euro)/kg. The price of green pepper was 1.50-2.40 PLN (0.38-0.61 euro)/kg. Price of pepper imported from Spain was 4.50-6.00 PLN (1.14-1.52 euro)/kg.

Prices of greenhouse cucumbers were 3.50-4.50 PLN (0.87-1.14 euro)/kg.
The domestic demand for tomatoes was low but prices remained stable at the level 20-22 PLN (5.06-5.57 euro)/6 kg due to high demand from Russian recipients.
