Weekly summary – fresh-market.pl price analysis (05-11.10.2009)
At the end of the first decade of October the prices of apples, both industrial and dessert, remained stable. The price of industrial apples was 0.14 - 0.17 PLN (0.033-0.04 euro)/kg in purchasing centers and 0.20 PLN (0.047 euro)/kg for apples delivered to the plant.
The prices of industrial apples are higher than last year when prices dropped even to 0.08 - 0.10 PLN (0.019-0.023 euro)/kg, but not enough for fruit growers. Many growers decided to leave the apples under the trees, however recently one could observe slight increase in supply of such apples. At the moment the prices of apples for export are now lower than last year. Last week the prices of Lobo, Cortland 70 + (without packaging) were from 0.50 PLN (0.12 euro)/ kg and prices of Gala and Ligol were 0.70 - 0.80 PLN (0.16-0.19 euro)/kg.
On the vegetables market one could also observe generally stable prices. Last week the prices of root vegetables and brassicas didn’t change. The Chinese cabbage still remains very cheap (0.35 PLN (0.08 euro)/kg – producers price) and probably won’t change in the near future. Cauliflower and broccoli prices also remained stable - average 1.58 PLN (0.37 euro)/pcs. and 1.20 PLN (0.28 euro)/pcs. adequately. Prices of red sweet peppers also remained stable - about 2.80 PLN (0.66 euro)/kg.
Last week only prices of greenhouse cucumbers and tomatoes much changed. Prices of cucumbers are rising steadily. Last week the price of long cucumbers increased to 2.00 – 2.60 PLN (0.47-0.61 euro)/kg and the price of short cucumbers to 3.00 - 3.50 PLN (0.70-0.82 euro)/kg.
Prices of tomatoes much increased. In October the rise in prices of tomatoes is not surprising, but last week this increase was high. The average price of tomatoes size B increased from 2.40 PLN (0.56 euro)/ kg to 3.50 EUR (0.82 euro)/kg, tomatoes BB from 2.83 PLN (0.66 euro)/kg to 3.42 PLN (0.80 euro)/kg. Strong demand for B tomatoes for exports caused that the price reached even 4.66 PLN (1.09 euro)/kg. At the end of the week, the price of these tomatoes in the domestic market fell to 3.00 PLN (0.70 euro)/kg because of the strong decline in demand, but prices of tomatoes for export remained higher.
