The harvest of strawberries is ending, at the moment the strawberries are being picked in the north-western part of Poland. Last week one could observe the decreasing supply of strawberries what resulted in slight increase in prices.

The price of dessert strawberries intended for export (variety Marmolada) was from 4.00 (0.92) to 7.00 PLN (1.60 euro)/kg. The price of industrial strawberries without stalks was 1.80 PLN (0.41 euro)/kg. The purchase of currants is increasing. Prices of red currants didn’t change week-on-week and were 0.80 PLN (0.18 euro)/kg in the purchasing centers and 1.20 PLN (0.27 euro)/kg in processing plants. Last week the demand for black currants from processing plants was increasing last week. In consequence the prices also were increasing, however this rise in prices wasn't too big and was observed only in some areas of Poland. At the end of the week prices were at the level 1.70 – 2.30 PLN (0.39-0.53 euro)/kg depending on the area of Poland.

Prices of cherries remained low. A few sunny days caused that these fruits were quickly ripening and their supply was increasing on the market. Prices was even from 1.00 PLN (0.23 euro)/kg for less popular varieties and cherries of poorer quality. Prices of cherries of very good quality were from 3.50 PLN (0.80 euro)/kg.

The purchase of sour cherries started. At the moment prices aren't satisfied for fruit growers. Last week first prices in purchasing centers were from 0.70 (0.16) to 1.00 PLN (0.23 euro)/kg for sour cherries for freezing.

Last week the purchase prices of raspberries (from 3.00 (0.69) to 3.80 PLN (0.87 euro)/kg) were higher than in the end of June.

On the market of fresh vegetables one could particularly observed a rise in prices of cauliflowers and broccoli, low supply of greenhouse cucumbers and downward trend in prices of tomatoes. The heavy crop of cauliflowers and broccoli finished and as a result the average prices of cauliflowers increased from 1.25 (0.29) to 2.05 PLN (-0.47 euro)/pcs. The prices of broccoli were also increasing, however slower than prices of cauliflowers – they increased from 1.20 (0.27) to 1.55 PLN (0.35 euro)/pcs.

The low supply of greenhouse cucumbers resulted in rise in their prices last week. The average price of long cucumbers increased from 1.60 (0.37) to 1.80 PLN (0.41 euro)/kg week-on-week and the average price of short ones – from 1.93 (0.44) to 2.30 PLN (0.53 euro)/kg. The low supply of cucumbers is a result of unfavourable weather conditions during early period of vegetation; due to low temperatures many flowers of cucumbers fell. This situation won’t change quickly, because one have to wait until later planted cucumbers appear on the market.

On the contrary the supply of tomatoes is still high and as a result their prices are decreasing. At the end of last week the average price of B size tomatoes was 1.83 PLN (0.42 euro)/kg (decrease from 2.42 PLN (0.55 euro)/kg), and the average price of BB tomatoes was 2.00 PLN (0.46 euro)/kg (decrease from 2.83 PLN (0.65 euro)/kg).

Last week domestic red sweet peppers appeared on the market. At the moment the supply isn’t very big and the price is rather high – from 6.00 (1.37) to 7 PLN (1.60 euro)/kg. The average price of green peppers decreased from 3.00 (0.69 euro) to 2.80 PLN (0.64 euro)/kg week-on-week.
