Weekly summary – fresh-market.pl price analysis (08.02 – 14.02.2010)

Last week red varieties of apples such as Shampion, Gloster and Jonagold are in bigger demand but only apples from cold stores. In the companies which purchase apples the price of apples of size 70 + was from 0.70 to 0.80 PLN (0.17-0.20 €)/kg and the price of apples 80 + was from 0.80 to 0.90 PLN (0.20-0.22 €)/kg.  Ligol size 80 + was purchased at price 0.80-1.00 PLN (0.20-0.25 €)/kg.

Apples from ordinary stores was purchased by only a few companies. The price of Idared size 70 + was 0.65 PLN (0.16 €)/kg, the price of red varieties was 0.60 PLN (0.15 €)/kg. The price of Shampion from ordinary stores was 0.55 PLN (0.13 €)/kg.

Apples of Gala variety was in big demand. The purchase price of these apples size 65 + from cold stores was from 1.00 to 1.40 PLN (0.25-0.35 €)/kg. The producer price of Golden Delicious was from 1.10 to 1.40 (0.27-0.35 €)/kg (size 70 +).

Last week the prices of pears slightly decreased. The purchase price of Conference 60 + was 1.50 PLN (0.37 €)/kg, however the same price was paid for pears size 70+. Conference, size 70 + was also purchased at price 1.70 PLN (0.42 €)/kg. The purchase price of Lucas was 1.50 PLN (0.37 €)/kg.

The price of industrial apples also decreased The price in purchasing companies was 0.14 PLN (0.035 €)/kg, and in processing plants - 0.16 PLN (0.04 €)/kg.

Prolonged winter and strong snowfalls in the whole country strongly influence the situation on the market of fresh vegetables. Prices increase every week. Last week it concerns especially cabbages and onion of good quality because the supply of such product is low. In the southern part of Poland the price of onion has already reached 1.50 (0.37 €)/kg. In central Poland onion was cheaper: 1.20 – 1.30 (0.30-0.32 €)/kg. The imported onion is also expensive – 1.20 – 1.50 PLN (0.30-0.37 €)/kg. It is a result the lack of good quality onion in the whole Europe.

At the end of last week the price of white cabbage was from 0.70 to 1.10 (0.17-0.27 €)/kg (the highest price in małopolskie province). The price of cabbage at the level of 1.10 (0.27 €)/kg is similar to the price of German cabbage (0.25-0.33 €)/kg. The price of red cabbage reached the level of 0.80 – 1.20 PLN (0.20-0.30 €)/kg (the highest price in mazowieckie province). The price of Chinese cabbage of good quality, green and small (800 - 1200 g), packed in boxes was 1.30 – 1.60 PLN (0.32-0.40 €)/kg.

Prices of other domestic vegetables were more stable. Locally in the south of the country prices of washed celeriac increased to 1.60 PLN (0.40 €)/kg. Prices of beets remained at the level of 0.50 -0.70 PLN (0.12-0.17 €)/kg however one can see that the supply of beets decreases what may result in price increase. Price of carrot remained stable, both domestic – 0.70 – 1.00 PLN (0.17-0.25 €)/kg and imported – 0.80 – 0.90 PLN (0.20-0.22 €)/kg.

The supply of domestic leeks is already very low and their quality is rather poor. Last week the wholesale price of domestic leeks was 2.50 – 3.00 PLN (0.62-0.75 €)/kg. It means that one can expect increase in prices of imported leeks. Last week the price of leeks imported from France and Belgium was to 5.00 PLN (1.25 €)/kg. However, this week their price may reach 6.00 PLN (1.50 €)/kg.

The price of imported broccoli did not changed (24 - 28 PLN (6.00-7.00 €)/box 10 pcs The price of Iceberg lettuce increased to 50 PLN (12.50 €)/box 10 pcs. The price of imported cucumbers even to 38 PLN (9.50 €)/ 4,5 kg and red pepper to 35 (8.75 €)/carton 5 kg. Price of imported tomatoes also slightly increased to 36 PLN (9.00 €)/carton 6 kg.
