Weekly summary – fresh-market.pl price analysis (11-18.10.2009)

Last week the prices of apples, both the dessert and the industrial ones remained stable. The purchase price of industrial apples was 0.14 - 0.17 PLN (0.033-0.04 euro)/kg in purchasing centers and 0.20 PLN (0.047 euro)/kg for apples delivered directly to the plants.

The average purchase price of apples intended for export was 0.50 – 0.60 PLN (0.12-0.14 euro)/kg for apples 70 + without packaging. So far the export is very low and one have to wait for the next year when the customs duty in Russia are lower.

The prices of most vegetables also remained stable, not only root vegetables and brassicas, but also the prices of tomatoes and greenhouse cucumbers. At the end of the week the average price of tomatoes size B was 2.75 PLN (0.65 euro)/kg and tomatoes size BB - 2.92 PLN (0.69 euro)/kg. Prices of greenhouse cucumbers were still increasing in the middle of the past week. However, due to competition from imported cucumbers, when prices reached 3.30 PLN (0.78 euro)/kg for long cucumbers and 4.00 PLN (0.95 euro)/ kg for short cucumbers, they stopped increasing.
A lot of mess caused unexpected winter weather on Wednesday. However the winter passed quickly and prices of vegetables such as cauliflowers, broccoli or Chinese cabbage didn’t increased.

The harvest of peppers is slowly ending. Prices of red pepper packed in cardboard boxes were at the level of 2.80 PLN (0.66 euro)/kg and the price of green peppers – 2.00 PLN (0.47 euro)/kg. Prices of domestic peppers remained stable due to the competition from pepper imported from Holland.
