Weekly summary – fresh-market.pl price analysis (14-20.09.2009)
In the third week of September, the prices of apples are still the hottest topic. The prices of industrial apples hardly changed. The price in processing plants is 0.18 - 0.20 PLN (0.04-0.05 euro)/kg, and in purchasing centers: 0.14 - 0.17 PLN (0.03-0.04euro)/kg.
The supply of these apples was not big and more and more fruit farmers declare that they won’t deliver apples at such prices. As for dessert apples, early-autumn varieties such Gala, Cortland, Lobo appeared on the market. Gala, which is popular on the Russian market reached the price to 1.30 PLN (0.31 euro)/kg (with packaging). Lobo and Cortland had lower prices: 0.70 - 0.80 PLN (0.17-0.19 euro)/kg.
Last week the prices of plums also hardly changed. The price of exported plums (size 40 +, in the plastic boxes) reached 1.20 - 1.40 PLN (0.29-0.34 euro)/kg. Price of plums for processing was 0.30 – 0.50 PLN (0.07-0.12 euro)/kg (depending on the purpose). Prices of raspberries also remained stable. The prices of fruits for freezing were from 3.20 to 4.00 PLN (0.77-0.97euro)/kg, and for pressing: 2.70 - 3.00 PLN (0.65-0.72 euro)/kg.
On the market of fresh vegetables, prices of tomatoes and greenhouse cucumbers fluctuated as usual. The end of the week the price of tomatoes increased again. The average price of B tomatoes increased from 1.75 PLN (0.42 euro)/kg to 2.00 PLN (0.48 euro)/kg and the price of BB tomatoes from 2.00 PLN (0.48 euro) to 2.17 PLN (0.52 euro)/kg. Prices of tomatoes have been fluctuating for weeks and in the near future the situation will be probably similar. As regards greenhouse cucumbers, prices of long cucumbers were stable last week – the average price 1.75 PLN (0.42 euro)/kg. On the contrary the price of short cucumbers decreased considerably week-on-week. At the end of last week the average price of short cucumbers was 2.15 PLN (0.52 euro)/kg while at the end of the second week of September it was 2.45 PLN (0.59 euro)/kg.
Prices of cauliflower and broccoli were stable. These vegetables are still the cheapest in the lubelskie and podkarpackie provinces (1.60 - 1.70 PLN (0.39-0.41euro)/pcs. for cauliflowers, 1.30 - 1.60 PLN (0.31-0.39 euro)/pcs. for broccoli). In other areas of Poland, prices are still higher (2.00 - 2.30 PLN (0.48-0.55 euro)/pcs. for cauliflowers, 1.50 - 1.65 PLN (0.36-0.40euro)/pcs. for broccoli).
Prices of root vegetables and brassicas remained stable. Price of Chinese cabbage is low – from 0.90 PLN (0.22 euro)/kg.
Despite the low prices, the demand for onion was rather low and its price was 0.40 PLN (0.10 euro)/kg for onion size 50 +.
