Weekly summary – fresh-market.pl price analysis (19-25.01.2009)

In mazowieckie province the prices (in Polish zloty) of apples, both industrial and eating, didn't change. The purchase price of industrial apples was 0.10 – 0.12 PLN (0.023-0.027 euro)/kg. Price of red apples, 7 +, for export was 0.80 – 0.85 PLN (0.18-0.19 euro)/kg with cardboard box.

The price of more expensive varieties as Golden or Mutsu was 1.20 – 1.40 PLN (0.27 – 0.32 euro)/kg for apples 7 +, with the packaging. More and more Polish apples are exporting to Russia and experts forecast that this season’s volume of export can be record-breaking (much above 500 thousand t). If predictions are true prices should grow.

Last week the winter was less strong and twenty-four hour temperatures were clearly higher than in the first decade of January. It caused that prices of the majority of domestic vegetables were by a few per cent lower week-on-week. Average prices of carrots beets and celeries decreased. Growing import of some vegetables additionally influenced prices e.g. prices of carrots. At the end of the week on the Polish market the first leeks imported from France and Belgium appeared at price 4.50 PLN (1.02 euro)/kg. Earlier the export of these vegetables was unprofitable.

Last week prices of imported vegetables were changing. The average prices of broccoli, iceberg lettuces and tomatoes BB from Spain decreased appropriately to 4.00 PLN (0.91 euro)/piece, 2.80 PLN (0.64 euro)/piece and 5.20 PLN (1.18 euro)kg. On the market therea are also cheaper tomatoes from Morocco. After a slight increase at the begging of the week the price of Spanish red sweet pepper also decreased and at the end the week its price was 7.00 – 8.00 PLN(1.59- 1.82 euro)/kg i.e. by 1.00 PLN (0.23 euro)/kg lower than at the beginning. The prices of cauliflowers fluctuated as a result the decrease in their supply. The price of French cauliflowers at the end of the week was about 7 PLN (1.59 euro)/piece.
