The recent week of March didn't bring big changes in prices on fruit and vegetable markets. Before coming Easter one can observe the positive movement on the market. However it hasn’t result in price increase yet. Growing price of Chinese cabbage was an exception.
The export of Polish apples to eastern markets is still high. After slight increase in the third week of March their prices remained rather stable last week. The prices of Polish apples are still very low and there is no competition from EU-15 apples. Prices of red varieties, 70 +, with the cardboard boxes were 0.90 – 1.15 PLN (0.20-0.25 euro)/kg, price of Golden Delicious was 1.80 PLN (0.39 euro)/kg behind and price of Mutsu was 1.90 PLN (0.41 euro)/kg.
The prices of the majority of imported vegetables (tomatoes, pepper, cucumbers, leeks) were stable or in slight downward trend (e.g. lettuces or cauliflowers). Only the price of broccoli slightly increased.
Last week one could observe the bigger movement on the market of some domestic vegetables. As mentioned above Chinese cabbage became more expensive. At the end of the week the price of cabbage in cartons reached 1.90 PLN (0.41 euro)/kg. The price of washed celeriac also increased (the average price was 1.50 PLN (0.33 euro)/kg), especially in małopolskie province. The prices of beets in małopolskie province also reached the average level of the prices of the whole country (0.70 PLN (0.15 euro)/kg). After slight fluctuation the price of washed carrot stabilized and its price was to 1.70 PLN (0.37 euro)kg for carrot of very good quality. The bigger supply of Polish greenhouse cucumbers resulted in the decrease in their prices. The price of long cucumbers was about 5 PLN (1.09 euro)/kg and the price of short cucumbers started from 5.50 PLN (1.20 euro)/kg. The prices of white and red cabbages remained at very low level caused by oversupply and lack of demand from foreign traders.
