Weekly summary – fresh-market.pl price analysis (23 - 29.11.2009)

Last week of November the market of fruit and vegetables remained rather stable.
The prices of industrial apples remained stable 0.15 – 0.16 PLN (0.036-0.038 euro)/kg in purchasing centers and by about 0.05 PLN (0.012 euro)/kg more direct in processing plants. The supply of industrial apples is very low.

The prices of dessert apples also remained stable. The price of apples size 70 + intended for export was from 0.60 PLN (0.14 euro)/kg with packaging. The prices of apples 75 + and 80 + were higher by 0.05 - 0.10 PLN (0.012-0.024 euro)/kg. Golden Delicious was still more expensive - from 0.80 PLN (0.19 euro)/kg. Export to the east was still very low.

The market of vegetables generally remained stable. Due to the large supply prices of Chinese cabbage remained low. The purchase price of this vegetable was from 0.35 to 0.55 PLN (0.08-0.13 euro)/kg (without packaging). The price of white cabbage did not change, however on the market one could see a slight decrease in its demand. Last week, the most often price of white cabbage was about 0.50 PLN (0.12 euro)/kg.

The supply of domestic cauliflowers and broccoli is very low. Relatively cold first half of November caused that season these vegetables was shorter than last year.

Compared with the third week of November the prices of domestic greenhouse cucumbers did not changed significantly. The supply of domestic cucumbers is already very low and their prices are several times higher than imported cucumbers.

The price of good quality domestic tomatoes are relatively high. Their supply is still decreasing and imported tomatoes play increasingly important role in the market. Last week, prices of domestic tomatoes size BB were 20 - 22 PLN (4.78-5.26 euro)/carton 6 kg. Prices of tomatoes imported from Spain were 22 - 23 PLN (5.26-5.50 euro)/carton 6 kg. Moroccan tomatoes were much cheaper - 18 PLN (4.31 euro)/carton.

Prices of root vegetables, as usual this time of the year, were the most stable with the exception of parsley’s price. The supply of parsley is much lower than last year and its prices last week were 2.00 – 3.20 PLN (0.48-0.76 euro)/kg depending on the area of Poland. Parsley was the most expensive in małopolskie province, where prices increased by 100% during last few weeks.
