Weekly summary – fresh-market.pl price analysis (8-12.11.2010) – vegetables.

Last week trends on vegetable market remained stable. Sunny weather was still favourable for vegetables harvest. However, relatively low temperatures influenced supply and prices of many vegetables e.g. cauliflowers, broccoli, tomatoes, sweet peppers or cucumbers.
Due to lower supply the purchase prices of cauliflowers reached 1.50 PLN (0.37 euro)/pcs. and in some trading companies even 1.80 PLN (0.45 euro)/pcs. The selling price of cauliflowers and broccoli was 2.00-2.50 PLN (0.50-0.62 euro)/pcs.
Prices of cucumbers remained stable at the level 3.50-4.00 PLN (0.87-1.00 euro)/kg. Although the supply of domestic cucumbers significantly decreased, the demand is covered by imported product.
Prices of tomatoes was 24-26 PLN (6.00-6.50 euro)/6kg for BB size and 22-24 PLN (5.50-6.00 euro)/6 kg for B size tomatoes. It was due to high demand from Russian recipients as well as bigger demand on domestic market.
In some regions of Poland, where supply of root vegetables was lower, one could note increase in prices of parsley and beets. Insufficient supply of many vegetables is caused by lower crops. The quality of vegetables is also poor what can influence their storage and supply at the end of the current season.
Prices of cabbage remained stable. The price of white cabbage was 0.60-0.80 PLN (0.15-0.20 euro)/kg. The price of red and Chinese cabbage was from 1.00 PLN (0.25 euro)/kg and the price of Savoy cabbage was from 0.60 PLN (0.15 euro)/kg.
The price of onion remained at the level 0.90-1.20 PLN (0.22-0.30 euro)/kg. Although the supply of domestic onion is low the demand is not great because onion imported from Holland or Austria has similar price and its quality is better.
Price of potatoes also remained stable at the level 0.60 - 0.80 PLN (0.15-0.20 euro)/kg.
The supply of imported vegetables started growing significantly. The price of cucumbers and red sweet peppers from Spain was 3.30-4.00 PLN (0.82-1.00 euro)/kg and 5.00-6.00 PLN (1.25-1.50 euro)/kg respectively.
