Aubergines are up again.

The beginning of last week brought a halt to the upward trend in wholesale prices of imported aubergines on the Polish wholesale markets, but according to our forecasts, the interruption turned out to be a one-off correction. The new week brought a return to an upward trend.

Currently, the sales prices of aubergines imported from Spain are 1,98- 2,22 EUR/kg in a large wholesale in Poland. It was 16.1 per cent higher than last week. And there are many signs that this is not the end of the increase.

First of all, the rising scenario suggests the situation on the spot in Spain, where the weather is not favourable again, supply is decreasing and prices are rising. Today's quotations at wholesale auctions in the Spanish Almeria are at the level of 1.18 - 1.44 EUR/kg. A week ago it was 0.98 - 1.18 euro/kg, and on 19 November prices were in the range of 0.74 - 0.98 euro/kg. At the same time, it was already known that the upward trend was returning. The current question is how high will the price of aubergines be?

Let us recall that last year the supply deficit of these vegetables in December was so serious that prices reached 2.20 EUR/kg, and in Poland 2,85 EUR/kg. Anyway, it was not a record yet. In January 2017, the collapse of the weather literally froze Almeri vegetable crops. The prices of aubergines reached 4.00 EUR/kg, and on the Polish market they exceeded the 4,72 EUR/kg catch! As you can see the weather is a key factor in shaping the prices of these vegetables.
