Black currants: Poland decides about European prices

Poland as the biggest worldwide producer and exporter of deep-freezing and cooled black currants decides about situation of the market and prices trend in Europe. European market analysis of black currants shows that crops above 100 thousand tons result in decrease of purchase and export prices.

Such situation was noted in 1992 – 1993 when crops were at level of 122 – 132 thousand tons and purchase prices decreased to 0,17-0,30 PLN/kg and export prices decreased to 500 DM/tons. Purchase price of black currants increased conisiderably in 2007 and reached 1.09 – 1.33 EUR/kg and index of production profitability (producer price / total cost of production x 100%) was 210 %.
