Higher prices of onion

It seemed that by the end of season nothing will change on the “old” onion’s market. The demand for onion from last year crops was poor as well as prices. I nothing would happen but for fast rising supply of new onion.  However there is so small amount of that vegetable, especially domestic one. Additionally, it is quite expensive – prices are at the level of 2.00 – 3.00 PLN/ kg.

In that situation there is bigger interest in “old” onion. Due to its poor quality (as usually at the end of season) producers having better onion could increase prices. Prices of onion packed in bags increased from 0.35 – 0.40 PLN/ kg to 0.40 – 0.60 PLN/ kg. It is an increase at about 50% so quite high.
