Import of vegetables in 2008

Between January and October 2008 import of fresh vegetables amounted to 290.7 thousand t at value 202.4 million euro and import of canned vegetables amounted to 131 thousand t at value 118.9 million euro.

Import of fresh vegetables in November 2008 amounted to 13.6 thousand t at value 7.8 million euro. Compared to November 2007 import of fresh vegetables doubled, and its value increased by about 83 %. Import of all the most important vegetables increased. Import of cabbage and carrot was over four times higher, sweet peppers - three times higher and onions and tomatoes - over twice higher. Import of garlic was bigger by about 61 % and cucumbers by 53 %.
