Lower crops of carrots – higher prices?

Since the beginning of the year the prices of washed carrots increased already to the average level 1.10 PLN (0.26 euro)/kg.

As we already informed at such price the import of Dutch carrot is becoming profitable. According to Polish Statistical Office (GUS) the crops of carrots in 2008 were about 13 % lower than in 2007 and they were also smaller than the average of a few last years. Let us remind that Poland is one of the largest producers of carrots in EU with about 20 % share in UE market. The lower last year's harvest will considerably affect the supply of carrots on the market and in consequence their prices.
