Onion will be more expensive

We already informed about predictions of poor harvest of onion released by The Polish Central Statistical Office (GUS) as well as about the adverse weather conditions in the end of summer influencing the crop of onion.

However the crop of onion differs significantly depending on the region of Poland. The worst situation is in the central part of Poland and in Kujawy region, where there is little of onion and additionally it is affected by diseases. In Mazowsze and Wielkopolska regions situation is better, although onion of good quality is collected only on fields which were earlier appropriately irrigated.

On Thursday, October 2nd the average price of onion was at the level of 0.16 - 0.18 EUR/kg (size 4 - 7), but in the regions where the amount of onion is lower prices are rising. In purchasing centres price of onion is 0.13 EUR/kg and price of peeled onion reached the level 0.22 - 0.23 EUR/kg.
