Polish sour cherries popular in Russia
Major part of Polish sour cherries are sold to the Eastern markets, mainly to Russia. In spite of bad crops in 2007 volumes of exported deep-freezing sour cherries (61 thousand tons) were only slightly less in comparison with those of 2006.
20 % of total export was sold to Russia, in 2006 - 17 %. 18 % of 4.7 thousand tons of cooled sour cherries was sold directly to Russian market and probably some quantities were re-exported from Lithuania which bought 19 % of total export. Russia is the second big importer (after Germany) of sour cherries juice concentrate. In 2007 Russia imported 30 % of this product which total export amounted at 7.5 thousand tons.
