Production of cherries: high level of risk

Fruit growers producing cherries of at least 25 mm in diameter achieve the biggest profits. Price of cherries of smaller size are much lower.

The highest prices growers obtained for cherries of early varieties and for large-fruit cherries (1.48 – 2.08 EUR/kg in years when crops are at average level and 2.97 - 3.86 EUR/kg in years when crops are much lower than average). The production of cherries belongs to this type of production which has the high risk (frost damages, cracking of fruits).
