Reduced production of lettuce

A winter is a period when domestic production of lettuce is reduced. High production costs result in high purchase prices of lettuce.

Import of lettuce is much more profitable because of lower production costs in e.g. Spain, France, Italy and the Netherlands. At the moment in małopolskie province the purchase price of domestic lettuce is 1.70 PLN (0.42 euro)/piece (1st class, packed into boxes of 10 - 12 pieces). The highest price of lettuce 2.20 PLN(0.55 euro)/piece is in podlaskie province. This year the purchase prices of lettuce are much higher than in January last year when they were below 1.50 PLN (0.37 euro)/piece.
