Sour cherries – difficult season for producers

First purchase price of cherries for processing are not encouraging for producers. In podkarpackie province price of early varieties of sour cherries for deep-freezing are very low (about 0.34 – 0.37 EUR/kg).

Purchase price of sour cherries for juice concentrate are even lower (below 0.31 EUR/kg). Variety “Łutówka” will be harvesting in the second half of July and its price will decide about profitability of sour cherries production in Poland. Producers are already protesting and in the case of staying such low prices it can result in blockades of the cold store by producers.
