Weekly summary – fresh-market.pl price analyse (06-10.10.2008)

The end of the first decade of October brought further declines in prices of industrial apples. At the end of last week the price in purchasing centres dropped to the level of 0.022 – 0.028 EUR/kg.

There are huge amounts of industrial apples and some processing plants stopped the purchase because they have not enough space for storing this year's concentrate and demand for concentrate is small in spite of low price. The Association of Polish Fruit – Growers announced that the blockades of plants were possible again.

The price of eating apples stayed at stable level. Price of Cortland and Lobo 70+ was 0.17 – 0.20 EUR/kg, price of Shampion 70+ was 0.20 – 0.25 EUR/kg and price of Gala 70+ was 0.225 – 0.28 EUR/kg.

Price of plums were also stable: 0.56 – 0.62 EUR/kg for size 40+.

On the vegetable market there is also stabilization. Last week prices of root vegetables and brassica didn’t change. Because of an improvement in the weather conditions prices of some vegetables decreased. At the end of last week the average price of red sweet peppers packed into cardboard boxes was 0.93 EUR/kg, price of green ones was 0.60 EUR/kg and price of greenhouse cucumbers was 1.20 EUR/kg for long cucumbers and 1.34 EUR/kg for short cucumbers. Cauliflowers and broccoli also got cheaper - from the average price 0.62 EUR/piece to 0.49 EUR/piece and 0.58 EUR/piece to 0.48 EUR/piece respectively.

The price of tomatoes was rising during the whole last week and at the end of the week the average price was 0.98 EUR/kg for tomatoes B size and 1.03 EUR/kg for BB tomatoes. It is probably result of big demand for tomatoes both on the Polish market and other European countries markets.
