Weekly summary – fresh-market.pl price analyse (1-7.12.2008)

At the beginning of December increase in prices on the market of fresh fruit and vegetables was stopping by relatively high twenty-four hour temperatures.

However shorter days and less daylight obviously influenced the amount and prices of some domestic vegetables, which like warmer weather. That’s why share of imported vegetables on the Polish market is growing.

At the beginning of December the purchase prices of industrial apples slightly increased (in Polish zloty) and were from 0.03 up to 0.04 euro/kg depending on the area of Poland.

In spite of the growing export, the prices of eating apples remain stable. The price of apples 7 + was from 0.18 euro/kg with the packaging and the price of Golden variety was as usual more expensive to 0.33 euro/kg with the packaging.

The prices of brassica and root vegetables remained still stable. However the average price of carrot slightly decreased to 0.15 euro/kg and in the central part of Poland the price of Chinese cabbage increased to 0.18 euro/kg. As regards vegetables for processing the situation is a little bit different. The prices of white and Chinese cabbages didn't change and the price of savoy cabbage a little bit decreased. The demand for carrot and onion is quite high. The price of carrot for cubes was 0.056 – 0.077 euro/kg and the price of peeled onion was 0.187 – 0.218 euro/kg.

At the beginning of December domestic tomatoes, lettuces and cauliflowers already disappeared from the market and were replaced by vegetables imported mainly from Spain and Italy. There is upward trend in prices of these vegetables. On the market domestic broccoli are still available but their prices are also rising. At the end of the week the price of broccoli was even 0.67 euro/piece including the packaging
