Weekly summary – fresh-market.pl price analyse (10-16.11.2008)

On the market of fresh fruit and vegetables the consecutive week of November passed uneventfully without price changes.

Prices of industrial apples stayed at the low and stable level. In the central part of Poland the purchase price was 0.021 0.027 euro/kg in purchasing centres and 0.04 euro/kg in processing plants. Only in the south of Poland, the price was a little bit higher - to 0.045 euro/kg.

The prices of eating apples slightly decreased and were at the level of 0.188 euro/kg for the majority of varieties (price with the packaging, size 70+). Only Golden Delicious was an exception but its price also slightly dropped at the end of the week - to 0.27 – 0.29 euro/kg.

In the second week of November the prices of majority of vegetables were stable. At the end of the season of Polish tomatoes their average price was 0.74 euro/kg (B size, packed into cardboard boxes of 6 kg) and the week earlier the price was 0.73 euro/kg.

The prices of root vegetables and cabbages were traditionally the most stable, however Chinese cabbage was an exception. At the end of last week, in the south of Poland prices of Chinese cabbage clearly decreased. The purchase price in cooperatives in małopolskie province started from 0.11 euro/kg.

On the other hand one can expect growing prices of cauliflowers. Although last week their prices kept steady, according to many traders prices of cauliflowers will start increasing on Monday as a result of decreasing supply of these vegetables. Of course the weather will be a key factor for the pace of these changes. The upward trend already started in the case of broccoli. At the end of last week their average price rose by about 0.027 euro to 0.44 euro/piece. However on the market there are still cheap broccoli from lubelskie province - 0.35 euro/piece (price with the packaging).
The second week of November brought also the next increase in price of Iceberg lettuce. At the end of the week its average price was 0.72 euro/piece (price with the packaging). Generally one should say that relatively warm beginning of November stopped both the rise in prices of domestic vegetables and the import increase.
