Weekly summary – fresh-market.pl price analyse (11-17.08.2008)
The second week of August passed. As regards prices of fruit, both prices of dessert fruit and fruit for processing stayed at low level. In spite of last week's announcements purchase price of apples for processing did not increase and it is still on the level of 0.0.04 EUR/kg.
Dessert apples are also cheap. Price of Paula Red and Delicates varieties (size 70+) was 0.33 – 0.36 EUR/kg. Situation on the market of plums in not better. Price of dessert plums of 1st class intended for export is about 0.50 EUR/kg. Price of plums for processing was 0.12 - 0.13 EUR/kg, but the demand is low.
Last week purchase of chokeberries started. Situation is similar to this one of purchase of sour cherries and apples. Purchase prices are very low at the level of 0.20 - 0.26 EUR/kg. Let us remind that last year purchase price of chokeberries, in the first decade of August, was about 0.75 EUR/kg.
Raspberries for processing are an exception. Their price, staying at the level of about 1.21 EUR/kg, is similar to last year's price.
In the second week of August prices of vegetables had a downward trend or they stayed at the stable level. Prices of red sweet peppers decreased the most. This trend started at the beginning of last week when average price of sweet peppers was 0.95 EUR/kg. In the end of last week price decreased to 0.68 EUR/kg. Similar situation concerned the yellow sweet peppers. Prices of green and white sweet peppers stayed at the stable level of 0.53 – 0.54 EUR/kg. Average prices of carrots (0.21 EUR/kg) and potatoes (0.15 EUR/kg) were stable Prices of beetroots, white, red and Savoy cabbages slightly fluctuated.
Price of tomatoes has stabilized at so low level that most probably it would not decrease any more. Price of tomatoes of B and BB size ranged from 1.99 to 2.27 EUR/box of 6 kg.
Last week upward trend was noticed for prices of cauliflowers, broccoli, Chinese cabbage and French beans. Increasing prices of these vegetables are a result of decreasing supply on the market. The heavy crop of cauliflowers in the south of Poland ended and average price of cauliflowers increased to the level of 0.53 EUR/piece in the end of the week. Similarly the average price of broccoli in the end of the week increased to 0.47 EUR/piece.
In the end of last week price of Chinese cabbages rose to the average level of 0.38 EUR/kg as a result of reducing supply of cabbages on the market. This situation will rather not change in near future.
Price of French beans increased during last week from the average level of 0.62 to 0.80 EUR/kg. There is little field French beans on the market, and their quality isn't the best. This situation will not also change quickly.
